Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that help can the body resist the stressors of day to day life, whether physical, chemical or biological. These plants have been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine traditions, and they are becoming very popular again today.
Adaptogens help your body handle stress. They’re meant to bring us back to the middle, to balance, to homeostasis.
Sleep in the dark.
Close your bedroom door. Use blackout shades or wear an eye mask to sleep. If your clock has a light on it turn it away from you so the light doesn’t interfere with your sleep. Don’t turn on the light if you get up to use the bathroom. If you must have a night light use a red bulb.
Keep it quiet.
Any sound can interfere with your sleep, as well. Use earplugs if you live in a noisy environment. You could also use a fan for white noise that will block out most other outside noises. As long as it’s a steady, low sound it can lull you to sleep.
Why is sleep so important?
Sleep is a very complex process of rest, rejuvenation, restoration, replenishment and renewal. It is not a passive process where you just turn off for a few hours. Our bodies are extremely busy while we sleep. Our bodies are basically run according to our biological clock, circadian rhythms, which are mental and physical characteristics that occur over the 24 hours of the day every day. Every system , every cell in our body has a circadian rhythm that controls the timing of most things according to the response to light, temperature, hormones and other signals coming to the body from within and without. We have a master clock in our brains. This comprises the body’s biological clock. When we sleep is part of this circadian rhythm.
